LLCLS Host Sites

We’re grateful for the co-hosts we collaborate with! We are always open to collaborating in the future in different places. If you’re interested as collaborating as the host with the space and selecting a lecturer you’d like to hear from and us as the facilitators of the project, please read below and reach out to linklinkclub@gmail.com . Co-hosting has a low impact on your calendar/space and a high impact on the community.

What does hosting LLCLS entail?

The total time needed is ~1 hr before the night, ~3 hrs for the actual lecture evening, and ~½ hr the day following the lecture evening.

There are three styles of lectures to host, depending on the space and the desires of the host.

No matter the style, here are the basic needs for a lecture night:

  • Co-curators assist in selecting the lecturers for the event. Once selected, Link-Link Club handles all communication to prepare the lecturer for the event and CCs the co-curator on this communication.

  • The minimum capacity is 30 seated for the ‘classic style’ lecture evening.

Chairs/Seating for audience members is optimal.

AV set up with a speaker system and either a large TV or projector is optimal. AV setups must have the capability to take input from a computer. Ideally, the computer can be controlled by the lecturers. ***If the host space does not have an AV setup, let’s chat about simple solutions.

A designated area for pizza to be shared following the lectures is integral.

  • Link-Link Club manages communication and invitations to lecturers and their guests while including the host space on all communications. Link-Link Club will promote the host space on all communications.

  • While the start time for the lecture may vary depending on the host space, the typical schedule looks like this:

5:00 - Link-Link Club arrives to set up chairs + AV

    5:15 - Lecturers arrive

    5:45 - Guests arrive

    6:15 - Lecture 1

    6:40 - Lecture 2

    7:05 - Pizza

8:00 - Link-Link Club returns space to original condition

  • Link-Link Club shares a “thank you for having us” email to all guests and on social media.

LLCLS makes a collaborative photo album for sharing photos with the host space.

  • Pizza following the lecture is key to the ethos of the project. Over pizza, follow up conversations among guests and lecturers occur and are arguably as impactful as the lectures themselves. If you are interested in hosting, but unsure about having pizza in your space, reach out anyway so we can discuss solutions (i.e. outside, next door, etc.).

  • LLCLS events are free and not-for-profit. Because of this structure, LLCLS hosts understand that to host is to collaborate (unlike a space rental). Pizza will be purchased by guests as an “entry fee” through the RSVP form. After covering cost of pizza/paper plates, any excess money will go to the host. LLCLS events are BYOB, unless otherwise determined by the host.
